Léonide Massine Positano Award for the Art of Dance Positano Beach, 1 September 2007. The 36th edition of this prestigious international event is entirely dedicated to Terpsichorean art. It includes performances by numerous dance stars and participation by celebrities from the world of culture and entertainment and naturally, the prize-winning artists. This first edition of this historic event was held 2nd August 1969 at the Hotel Royal. Back then, it was simply referred to as the Premio Positano per la Danza (Positano Dance Award) and was only given its current name 10 years later, after the death of Maestro and choreographer Léonide Massine, after whom it is named. Famous names in this elite event, which over time has distinguished itself to have welcomed and paid homage to the most important names in dance, include Diaghilev, Nijinskij, Ricasso, Stravinsky, Fonteyn, Nureyev, Ezralov, Pendleton and Lindsay Kemp. However, the event doesn't overlook the talent of young emerging artists, who are brought to the attention of the public and highly-qualified critics. The Award of Merit (for well-known artists and celebrities), Award of Recognition (young talent) and special plaques will be presented during this annual evening long-awaited by all enthusiasts. An annual appointment eagerly awaited world-wide.
