Natural beauties of Positano
Positano, perched on the mountains of the Amalfi Coast, doesn’t only offer wonderful views, but also much natural beauty which makes the territory both famous and unique.
Amongst these natural beauties of Positano worth a visit, are the grottos of Positano. This can, however, be perilous so it would be advisable to either go with a guide or at least obtain more indepth information on them beforehand.
The more famous grottos in Positano are: Grotta La Porta, Grotta di Mirabella (where the bandit Mirabella lived), Grotta di Capriglione (which one will find in the suburb of Laurito), the Grotta del Generale, the Grotta di Mezzogiorno (also known as the Grotta delle Soppressate), the so-called Grotta del Cadavere, as well as others scattered elsewhere along the coast.
Another place worth visiting is the natural arch from which the suburb of Montepertuso takes its name.
Lovers of trekking should not underestimate the beauty of the Path of the Gods. It’s this 1000 year old pathway which, in ancient times, connected Sorrento and the Sorrentine Peninsula (in fact it continued all the way to Punta Campanella where one finds at its furthest point Massa Lubrense, Stabia and Nocera.
In the past, The Path of the Gods was the only road that linked the Amalfi Coast and the Sorrentine Peninsula. Those who wish to follow the path will come in close contact with nature. It is advisable to get in touch with CAI (the Italian Alpine Club) and secure a map of the route from them. Once you have this in your hands, follow the red tracers.
This walk hasn’t become famous just for the beauty of its many sites along the way, but these include such placet as the Temple of Cerere (where today one will find the church of Santa Maria del Castello in Vico Equense), the Temple of Mitra and the Temple of Minerva.
The Path of the Gods is the object of frequent pilgrimages and interest in it has not been lost with the advent of Christianity
It is still considered like a real tourist attraction for its suggestive views you can enjoy following its route and its lush and verdant vegetation besides the presence of birds such as kestrel, the hawk and the buzzard, foxes and wild boar.
